Meet the Maker: RALPH's

Continuing our Meet the Maker series, we're shining the light on the many gifted producers behind some of Ireland's best food and drink brands. Today, we chat to the team behind RALPH's.

Could you tell us a bit about the history of Ralph’s?

The flagship drink was born out of our love for White Russians, coupled with a late in life discovery that we were mildly lactose intolerant.* . It evolved over the years with tweaks and different ingredients until we struck perfection.

The White Ralph always went down a treat with friends, and we spotted an opportunity; it’s the first drink of its kind on the market.

Blending our love for design, food and drink, we imbued the brand with a carefully considered aesthetic that pays homage to mid-century American diners and Japanese soft serve ice cream culture. The result is like a boozed up Hopper’s Nighthawks painting set in the future.

Why is using Irish ingredients important to your company?

One of our ingredients is Irish, the rest are from all over!

Irish people are championing Irish products and produce more than ever, which is amazing to see! The more we believe in our own output in food, music, art, architecture and design, the more we fulfil our destiny as a proud and pioneering nation! This shift also enables more homegrown growers and producers to operate sustainably!

We Irish are highly innovative and creative, and it’s exciting to see our confidence in paving the way!

What is the biggest challenge that you face as a food producer in Ireland?

We haven’t encountered any!

What new trends do you see that are emerging in your industry?

While we cycle in and out of lockdowns, people are looking for new experiences and flavours in food and drink; they can’t go out and see the world so it’s a chance for them to be more adventurous with their palette, and a chance for us to reach new fans.

Are there any major changes you would like to see in your industry?

Not so much changes, but evolution in certain mindsets.

What has running your own business taught you?

Believe in your own ideas, don’t wait for permission or approval to move on them!

Who are some other Irish foodie brands you draw inspiration from?

We get excited seeing small independent people step out with original product and branding, huge taste and high quality.

Our friends at White Mausu, Gubeen, Franks and Baste are all doing great things!

We’re big fans of Hens Teeth and Soup Ramen!

Bobby lawn, Jamie McCarthy and Cuan Green are all developing great things to hit the streets soon!

What’s next for the company?

We have new drinks in the pipeline, as well as a vegan White Ralph in development.

A RALPH’S location in Dublin is imminent!

Go International & bring RALPH’S to the world!
