Dublin’s Vibrant Foodie Scene at Taste 2019

With just three weeks to go until Taste of Dublin kicks off on Thursday, June 13th, we are starting to get more than a little excited about some of the new restaurants appearing at Taste for the first time.

The Dublin food scene has never been more vibrant than it is now, and one of the best things about it is the number of pop-ups, residencies and food trucks serving up truly creative, innovative food and proving that you don’t have to have a bricks and mortar restaurant to offer a great dining experience.

To celebrate this revolution in Irish menus, and the next generation of Irish and New Irish chefs behind it, the people who are taking culinary risks, fusing Irish and international cuisine and offering food-lovers wonderful, eclectic eating opportunities, our theme this year is Vive La Révolution!

Each day, two new restaurants that you may not have had a chance to try before will be popping up in our Daily Special slot. It’s an opportunity to try something new and different and we think that you are going love it.

Dee Kelly and Matteo Griscti are the couple behind Grálinn (a mash up of two Irish words loosely meaning ‘love together’). Until now you would only have had the opportunity to sample their delicious small plates at their residency at MVP in Dublin and at their tiny (eight seats!), exquisite supper clubs at Elmhurst Urban Farm in Glasnevin. This summer they are taking to the road in their new food truck and Taste is one of the first stops on their festival circuit.  Matteo’s food is a happy mish-mash of influences from food cultures all around the world – the common denominator is that everything is delicious.

Milly Murphy and Alex Gurnee’s Vietnom – usually based at the Glimmerman pub in Stoneybatter – is another food truck putting flavour to the fore, using Vietnamese flavours with Irish ingredients. There’s a smattering of Mexican influence too, so you might find chipotle salsa on a bánh mì of delicious organic vegetables from McNally Family Farm, for instance. It’s fusion, but not as you know it.

You’ll know Kwanghi Chan from his frequent television appearances, and you may even have a few of his terrific Chan Chan range of sauces and condiments in your kitchen (his Spice Bag seasoning is an Irish essential), but you may not yet have tried his new Bowls by Kwanghi in Dublin city centre. The Donegal chef will be bringing a sample of what’s on offer in his casual Asian restaurant to Taste this year and we can’t wait.

From Asia to the Caribbean, and Nick Reynolds of the Lil Portie Caribbean Kitchen is at Taste for the first time with some of the dishes that made Lil Portie such a destination during its residency at 250 Square in Rathmines over the past year. Expect all manner of tantalising Caribbean deliciousness but be warned … some of Nick’s food is hot hot hot!

Those who know their Korean food – their bibimbap from their bulgogi – know that Jaru’s food is amongst the most authentic that you’ll find in Ireland.  You may have come across Jaru’s stall at lunchtime markets around Dublin, but if you haven’t had a chance to eat his food yet then you are in for a treat – this is the real deal, full of explosive flavours combinations. The kimchi is awesome.

Shaka Poke started out in Blackrock market and now has a second branch in the Stephen’s Green shopping centre. They will be bringing their super-fresh signature Hawaiian-style poke bowls to Taste for the first time this year, with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians.

We are also delighted to welcome back Chef Adrian Martin in a new concept restaurant collaboration with Manor Farm Chicken, Adrian’s Manor. Adrian’s infectious enthusiasm for all things chicken will send you home full of ideas to reinvigorate your cooking at home.
