An omnivorous foodie and a classically trained chef, Simon Lamont has turned his hand to several facets of the food industry, from perfecting French classics at the pastry station to street food shucking, managing top London seafood restaurants to presenting foodie TV shows.
Simon’s first love is seafood; and in particular oysters. He has worked in top kitchens, 5-star hotels, award-winning restaurants and funky bars from Boston to London, via Capetown and Bordeaux! Simon honed his culinary skills at DIT Cathal Brugha Street and in local restaurants in Dublin city before packing his bag of chef’s knives and hitting the road.
A chance encounter with a TV producer led to the filming of TV3’s The Lazy Chef, a delicious road trip that highlights some of Ireland’s best kept culinary secrets. Simon got stuck in with local food producers across Ireland and demonstrated his fun, tasty and lazy style of cooking. In 2016 The Lazy Chef was picked up by the Spanish Food Network, Canal Cocina and Simon can now be seen en español across Spain and Latin America: Ariba!
After setting his sights on London, Simon quickly proved he was a force to be reckoned with working as a restaurant manager and creative consultant for the Wright Brothers Oyster group. In the summer of 2015 Simon co-created his first “pop-up” restaurant, an Oyster Bar in London’s foodie haven, Borough Market called SHUCK, which launched to rave reviews.
Simon currently splits his time cheffing and working on various creative pop ups in both Ireland and London.
